In most land fills the trash is hauled in, then at the end of the day they flatten the trash and cover it with dirt. Then start again the next day. The average life span of a landfill is about 20-25 years, and with the average American producing 4.5 pounds of trash a day, we will be neighbors with landfills for the foreseeable future. Do what you can to reuse, and recycle before you throw something away. Donation to a thrift store is a great way to declutter, without adding to the landfill. I read a fascinating article on reclaiming a closed landfill. Returning it to nature with out having to spend a fortune on landscaping every year!

In australia, its taken to landfills and transfer stations. We have landfills where the trucks dump their contents and it is burried.

They are a great place to visit to garbage pick looking for furniture etc.

The environmentalist insisted on burying it. There was some work on burning it as fuel to help reduce the cost of electricity. They blocked that too. The Left wants us to buy our oil from our Enemy...

some goes back into the earth..much of what goes back in the earth(partially) you don't wanna' know about!!....in most states though it actually costs millions more to "close" a landfill than to keep it running...due to all the covers, air venting, gas etc.to conform to state regulations.

the best solution....... RECYCLE!!

pratically everything is reuseable. plastic, glass, metal, precisious metals, paper.
