TIP: have only one or no kids.. one problem that everybody is afraid of talking about is that we are overpopulating our planet - more people = more pollution..

more people = a need for more housing

more people = demand for more food...water.. resources

more people = more trees cut for whatever..

cities are bigger now than when I was young.. I wonder how big they will be when I die???

The United Nations has warned that human over population will be to blame for our own collapse because once it reaches a certain point we cannot undo the damage...(eg once a certain number of trees are cut vs how many people are breathing out carbon dioxide - the remaining trees will not be able to keep up producing oxygen) and a bunch of other bad stuff..

we are at over 6 BILLION people - a long term sustainable level is 5 BILLION...the problem is partly becuase we are living longer so kids are not replacing their parents or grandparents since in most cases all are still living.. (and taking up space, food, etc)...

its estimated that within 50 years we will all be forced to eat cat and dog like in China becuase there will be no farm land left to raise cattle or crops for cattle...

within 100 years we will have to start killing off old people to make room for the rest of us...

so my #1 tip is: Have ONLY 1 kid.. or none at all

There are so many out there!

EPA is a good source.

But check out planetpals.com......there are sections on everything from global warming to healthy nutrition. All easy to understand. Lots of quick info tips on earth matters and solutions....For a complete overview see the site map.

Also check out the forum (planetpalsfriends on yahoo). Always tips listed for you on these subjects---see the recycle series.

Here are the plastic bag tips from the recycle series:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/planetpalsfriends/message/207

Reduce Plastic Bags

Instead of reusing bags, try not using them in the first place

Plastic bags take a long time to break down in a land fill and are

rarely recycled by stores and towns. So take a cloth bag with you, you'll be doing good! It can be stylish and green!

If you do use them...here's some ways to resuse them!

Recycling!

Use when recycling other items such as crushed tin cans and plastic bottles.

Trash bags:

The obvious for small garbage cans in our bathrooms and bedrooms, in

the car. Why not place a few of the plastic bags in the bottom of your

waste basket BEFORE you use one to line your waste basket. As you have

one filled, there will be another one to use

Use In Car

These work GREAT as a garbage holder for the car. Great if you have

children! Store them rolled into empty cardboard paper towel rolls

they fit under the seat or in the trunk. Or place two to three of the

plastic bags in an old pill bottle they fit in your purse or anywhere!

Packing Material

Great as a protective cushion when packing dishes or breakables.

Or just use as packing material for storage and mailing.

Crafts:

Use bags to stuff craft projects with kids. Great for paper mache,

puppets...limitless and you are teaching them to recycle. There are

lots of "recycle bag crafts" out there similar to fabric scrap

projects to make bags or baskets! Start a trend--plastic friendship

bracelets.

Kids Clean Up

Useful for teaching kids to help clean up a room.

Storage:

Roll in a ball--great to help keep shoes and bags in shape while in

your closet.

Packing:

Use As Overshoes when packing or travel.

When traveling, use plastic bags in your suitcases for dirty underclothes.

Use as a glove:

To Remove Poison Ivy...or pick up dog doo. Just great for handling

greasy and grimy projects.

As a wrap:

Garden Shoes-- tie them around shoes to protect while gardening,

especially after it rains and my garden is muddy. In the winter, use

plastic bags over your childrenâ€â„¢s snow boots to keep feet drier.

Food Wastes:

Great for kitchen garbage or cookout and picnic clean up, or while

preparing food if you don't have a garbage dsiposal.

Mans best friends:

Cat Litter And Pet Waste.

Frost cover!

Cover your plants to protect them from a frost.

Grage Sales:

Use at garage sales and flea markets even if you are just buying, take

a few plastic bags along for your purchases.

Laundry:

Place your wet swim suits or other wet clothing inside plastic bags

until you arrive home and can launder or hang out to dry.

Puzzling:

Use for puzzles or other items which have small parts that may get

lost. Puzzle boxes have become worn out. Keep the puzzles in the boxes

with a rubberband around the box. Great for other small toys too.

Eating out:

Place food inside a plastic bag before packing in a lunch bag or small

cooler. Even "airtight" containers can leak.

Babies:

Put sippy cups (even "spill-proof" ones) in a bag to prevent

accidental spills in the diaper bag. Diaper Clean Up

Use the bags for dirty diapers when you're out and about.

Defrosting:

When defrosting meats, place a paper towel in a plastic bag and put

meats in the bag to prevent messy leaks and cleanups.

Thrifty:

Donate bags to food pantries, used book stores, libraries, thrift

shops, or other organizations.

Bring them back:

Your grocery store or town may collect them--but FIRST ask what they

do with them--often nothing but trash them!

Stay Clean and Green!
