Can someone please tell me what kinds of items I should be recycling and how to do it? Do the cardboard boxes (crackers boxes, snack boxes ect) go to a different place than the plastic containers? Any advice to get started is appreciated.

you're local waste management company should know. a few months ago i received something in the mail with my water bill. here in arlington tx they take cardboard boxes, any and all glass. aluminum whether from soda cans or say a can of vegetables and of course news papers and my kids already graded school papers. now for the plastics they actually tell you what numbers to look for. here its 1 2 and they are working on getting what the need to do 5. generally you should remove the lids from any glass jars or plastic bottles and rinse things out that might still have food stuffs or soaps on or in it. i hope thats helpful.

What can be recycled varies by location. If you have curb side recycling then check with the city website for the list of what they take and how they want it sorted. If recycling isn't part of your waste pick up then go to www.earth911.com to find recycle centers in your area. The site has a list of centers and what they accept, you should check with them before you go to see how they want it sorted.

Basically anything can be recycled, but the most common in my area at least is beverage containers including aluminum cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles. Newspaper and corrugated cardboard. Here is a list of hazardous waste items that can't go into the garbage, many of these items are also recycled. Paint, batteries any kind, fluorescent bulbs (tubes and CFL's), aerosol cans, any household cleaners, pesticides and weed killers and fertilizers.

Start simple like recycling a single type of container then when you feel comfortable with it add another type of container. To answer what CAN be recycled, pretty much any consumer product container that is made up a single material is recyclable. Here is a list that most municipal recycling depots accept (but each of these must be separated from other types):

aluminum beverage cans

plastic beverage bottles

glass beverage bottles or food jars

brown cardboard boxes (without plastic on them)

newspaper

white office paper

metal cans used for food (like soup cans)

Things usually NOT recyclable are:

Microwaveable quick meal containers (made of mixed materials)

Plastic bottles used to contain oily substances like engine oil or certain chemicals.

Many types of lids or seals on containers.

Cloth or cloth containing materials or things soiled with oily substances.

Go to nrc-recycle.org if that does not work call local recyclers in your area. All Recycling is local, maybe that is the problem. If recycling was National and had one onehundreth of the subsidies that farming does, it might be doing better. I do not have hard facts but I work everyday next to a recycler and a lot of that stuff goes in regular garbage trucks to the dump.

I don't recycle anything. Recycling is just bowing down to the left wing's lies and corrupt agenda. We don't need recycling. God made the Earth in order for man to use it to his own advantage. Recycling and the left's other "efforts" to save the environment are all counterproductive and are just more ways they have the government controlling our lives.
